Why do we like listening to music?

Image
Do we listen to music differently in different stages of our lives?  Do we find some songs more gratifying than others in different times in our lives? Why do some songs make us feel good inside and others are just... just alright. Is it the wave frequency or is it that we relate to the lyrics? I, personally, know that I am not drawn to the words, sure it's great when the songs connect to your feelings and thoughts, but that is not my top requirement when choosing which songs I like or I should say which songs pull me in. I don't feel I choose them. They automatically get replayed and eventually given the title (at least in my head if I don't share them with anyone) that this song is goood.  My taste of music is different than what most people around me like. It is a personal thing. Most of the time I listen to music either on my earphones or in my car, sometimes there are others around me where in that case I listen to different genres usually something more upbeat. Most d

MediaMEForum 2011

Image
Today I'm attending a forum where top CEOs and business individuals are speaking about the digital revolution or at least the slow beginning of one in the middle east. Content is being placed online and reacted to on a daily basis, and it is creating an impressive impact on our society--anyone who watches the news will know this. The internet has become a movement of its own--its a place where anyone can be the advertiser, the contributor, the reader, the engager...etc. The digital media is very powerful, but currently what is missing in the middle east is not the presence of people to interact on the internet but instead the presence of useful websites for those media craving people in the middle east, moreover what is missing is the presence of middle eastern-created-websites. The majority of companies currently in the middle east are not utilizing the web strategically and placing useful information on their website...that's if they have a website at all to begin wit

I see green inside your home

Image
Often when people contemplate over building a home or anything extra in their current home--one (of several) thoughts come into one's head: "will I have to chop down that tree?" It has happened several times with people I know that had no choice but to chop down some tress. Although it is a dreaded thing to do, since greenery is something people usually look for, people are sometimes left with no choice. That is the first reason for this post. My second reason is that trees just look good inside the house. So that said perhaps architects and people can start incorporating the idea of not chopping down a tree and inside building around it and make it part of their home. This is the work of Chang Architects: its a house in the middle of a city so the greenery incorporated throughout the inside of it made it feel more like a house near the countryside. I'm not sure where I got this one from, but I like how its a corner of the house and then you look the opposit

I like eid for the cookies...not the meat

Image
Its almost Eid and instead of buying ma3mool this year, my mom decided to bake them. They take forever but the end result is worth it...especially when you come back home and the smell is all over the house and there are trays full of these cookies. And these two my brother made... Of course I ate my lunch and devoured so many of these cookies afterwards.

Chocolate & Marshmallow Cupcakes

Image
Don't cupcakes always look great? It's been a while since I made cupcakes, actually its the first time I make them in Jordan. Made muffins several times but those don't get decorated like cupcakes do! I topped the cupcake with a thick buttercream icing and a tiny twizzler, just so I can attract those kids' little fingers some more. There were kids around to eat these. Underneath that fancy topping was chocolate cake and a hidden melted marshmallow--its always fun to have a surprise inside. I haven't tried a real stuffing in cupcakes yet; but I will, so for now I placed an easy to place marshmallow.

Good morning, are you lost?

Image
Coming to work this morning I was thinking about people and directions. Wouldn't you think that as an evolving human being that everyone should be born with that 'good with directions' instinct or sense? Think about it, a long time ago people looked at the sun and the stars, saw which direction the wind is blowing and knew right away if they are heading north, east, south or west. Now we have street signs, street names, gpses, friends on mobiles, google maps, rules on how people should drive and yet people are not good with directions. Is our mind de-evolving in that section or is it that we stopped caring and are focusing our human brain elsewhere? I'd like to think its the second reason. This was just a thought on my mind today. This is a test

Image
I have just done something to start blogging from my blackberry so I'm testing it out. What I wanted to share with you is the recent training I went on...it was about social media and traveling. The general message learned from that training is that digital marketing and social media has become so effective and so much more popular than other forms of media because of its realtime effect and freedom. The people controlling the media here are not the PR or advertising agencies but instead YOU. Now that is powerful. Point is: become more active on social media. Be heard and let others hear you. This is where we are heading or where we already have stuck our heads into. Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone from Zain Jordan

This is Why I Like Advertising

Image
Look at these applications...they made me happy when I saw them: A reason for girls to get looked at... Anyone with the slight intention to gamble will definitely head straight to a casino after seeing this; and anyone who doesn't, will want to: Marketing the small and making it big: The better you play, the more you'll pay. There has to be a psychological impact on people with this ad. Gold Gym playing with the minds of people not only from afar but from inside the elevator...when the skinny man next to a hot chic wishes he goes to the gym. Smart Car: Sometimes mall is good: What's that you see? Call the police...oh wait, its only the Sopranos: "The Day After Tomorrow": that's how epic it will be: Superglue: When you want to make sure it stays put:

Nice Packaging

Just searching around I found these to be pretty so I'm sharing them with you... I did not know chips can be so architecturally inspiring...or is it the other way around? Are sure this is cola? Well it is the second most widest drank drink in the world... For kids???....nahhh for adults too: Straight to the point...and its name: How wonderfully clever: Is it poisonous or it is superpower-giving? I'd buy that:

Witty Designers with Logos

Image
This week at work, one of the designers kept working on designing logos--one after another--they just kept coming in. The problem with logo designing is that you can be heading in the completely right path and come out with several great logos but in the end option choosing the final logo. Below are a few examples of wittily-opinionated designers :)

Appreciate the Art

Image
I'm back today with more typography applications I found amusing. I wish this art was applied here in Jordan more often. I find that people here do not like to put that much effort into something only a minority will appreciate; so they trash the idea from the very start...but then again I can be wrong but I won't be convinced otherwise until I see typography being used all around! I am not saying it isn't used at all though! Jo Bedu is an example of a brand using typography all the time and they have a lot of fans. I'm just saying more people need to appreciate typography more!
