Why do we like listening to music?

Image
Do we listen to music differently in different stages of our lives?  Do we find some songs more gratifying than others in different times in our lives? Why do some songs make us feel good inside and others are just... just alright. Is it the wave frequency or is it that we relate to the lyrics? I, personally, know that I am not drawn to the words, sure it's great when the songs connect to your feelings and thoughts, but that is not my top requirement when choosing which songs I like or I should say which songs pull me in. I don't feel I choose them. They automatically get replayed and eventually given the title (at least in my head if I don't share them with anyone) that this song is goood.  My taste of music is different than what most people around me like. It is a personal thing. Most of the time I listen to music either on my earphones or in my car, sometimes there are others around me where in that case I listen to different genres usually something more upbeat. Most d

This is a test

I have just done something to start blogging from my blackberry so I'm testing it out. What I wanted to share with you is the recent training I went on...it was about social media and traveling. The general message learned from that training is that digital marketing and social media has become so effective and so much more popular than other forms of media because of its realtime effect and freedom. The people controlling the media here are not the PR or advertising agencies but instead YOU. Now that is powerful. Point is: become more active on social media. Be heard and let others hear you. This is where we are heading or where we already have stuck our heads into. Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone from Zain Jordan

This is Why I Like Advertising

Look at these applications...they made me happy when I saw them: A reason for girls to get looked at... Anyone with the slight intention to gamble will definitely head straight to a casino after seeing this; and anyone who doesn't, will want to: Marketing the small and making it big: The better you play, the more you'll pay. There has to be a psychological impact on people with this ad. Gold Gym playing with the minds of people not only from afar but from inside the elevator...when the skinny man next to a hot chic wishes he goes to the gym. Smart Car: Sometimes mall is good: What's that you see? Call the police...oh wait, its only the Sopranos: "The Day After Tomorrow": that's how epic it will be: Superglue: When you want to make sure it stays put:

Nice Packaging

Just searching around I found these to be pretty so I'm sharing them with you... I did not know chips can be so architecturally inspiring...or is it the other way around? Are sure this is cola? Well it is the second most widest drank drink in the world... For kids???....nahhh for adults too: Straight to the point...and its name: How wonderfully clever: Is it poisonous or it is superpower-giving? I'd buy that:

Witty Designers with Logos

Image
This week at work, one of the designers kept working on designing logos--one after another--they just kept coming in. The problem with logo designing is that you can be heading in the completely right path and come out with several great logos but in the end option choosing the final logo. Below are a few examples of wittily-opinionated designers :)

Appreciate the Art

Image
I'm back today with more typography applications I found amusing. I wish this art was applied here in Jordan more often. I find that people here do not like to put that much effort into something only a minority will appreciate; so they trash the idea from the very start...but then again I can be wrong but I won't be convinced otherwise until I see typography being used all around! I am not saying it isn't used at all though! Jo Bedu is an example of a brand using typography all the time and they have a lot of fans. I'm just saying more people need to appreciate typography more!

The Cloud is Heavy

Image
As written by Fast Company... "The cloud." The phrase is ubiquitous today, a buzzword, a shibboleth of the technorati. In some senses, the image of a cloud is a fitting metaphor for an increasingly common feature of modern computing--the storage of data in a location other than the device being used to access that data. It helps communicate, simply, the idea that our data floats around us, no matter where we go. But in another sense, the image of the cloud is sorely lacking as a metaphor. It remains a little, so to speak, nebulous.  Using  the cloud is a light, mobile, free-wheeling experience. But the cloud itself--the machinery that undergirds it--is anything but light. As these surprisingly artful images from  Interxion , a European data center company, illustrate well, the cloud is a heavy, heavy thing.

Typography Out of Bounds

Image
Typography is one of the many things I like. Today I came across a style that, to me seems like, was derived from a mix of calligraphy and modern fonts. The continuity of the lines basically makes the typography interesting. Just as in calligraphy there are lines that wrap the letters together, I feel these examples also do the same but with a more simpler and modern font (not cursive in the case of calligraphy). Below you will find a few examples of this type of typography. This one is slightly different...

Flickr

Today I created a Flickr account. Flickr has been around for a while but I never really had an interest in making an account but now with my slr I think it should motivate me to discover more things about professional photography. Also today, I read and looked at examples of photographing water droplets. Its really nice, especially when they do it with milk too. I want to do that one day but they all say it needs a lot of time and a lot of patience. So when those two come my way I will try it hopefully :) As for my Flickr account, for now I have added a few immature pictures I have taken and that I liked. You can take a look at them at:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/ayahabdin/  Still not very professional as I haven't photoshopped them in anyway nor learned half of everything I need to know about photography. I just popped them out straight from the memory stick, lowered the size of each image and uploaded them. Well alright. I hope you guys keep checking in every so
