Why do we like listening to music?

Image
Do we listen to music differently in different stages of our lives?  Do we find some songs more gratifying than others in different times in our lives? Why do some songs make us feel good inside and others are just... just alright. Is it the wave frequency or is it that we relate to the lyrics? I, personally, know that I am not drawn to the words, sure it's great when the songs connect to your feelings and thoughts, but that is not my top requirement when choosing which songs I like or I should say which songs pull me in. I don't feel I choose them. They automatically get replayed and eventually given the title (at least in my head if I don't share them with anyone) that this song is goood.  My taste of music is different than what most people around me like. It is a personal thing. Most of the time I listen to music either on my earphones or in my car, sometimes there are others around me where in that case I listen to different genres usually something more upbeat. Most d...

Chills, Peace & Simplicity

Image
Something about the air was chilly today...I don't mean temperature wise but rather a feeling of hollowness that gives you the chills. Waves of sadness kept barging in me and those around me uncontrollably. We kept trying to hide it with bursts of happiness, positivity and without having a care but nonetheless the feeling kept coming back. This winter weather does something to you. Perhaps it is the rain from yesterday, something is in the air. Perhaps, it is the political state of what is currently happening in this world (Jerusalem being declared capital of Israel), something is in the air. I think it is the sadness that we as humanity have come to be in Our World. If you pause and really think about it, you will feel it. Nonetheless, I think it is a good thing to feel this way. We are connecting. We are reaching into our deeper selves and feeling our human nature. Basic instincts that were once all we had. Back to a time where there were limited factors, societies, opinions...

There's a stink in the air but I just don't care

How can the world progress when we constantly are living in a world where you have to watch your back, a world that hurts others, where individuals have forgotten the true reward of doing good. Good can be as simple as providing a helping hand, giving support, showing someone you care, working a bit harder with no reward, no motive but simply doing what you believe is morally right. It is about sending positive energy out into this world, even when a lot of what you are receiving is negative. There are places in this world that just plainly have more negative energy than other places. Such places emit a cluster of negative power that is provoked by envy, competition, titles, attention, insecurities, lack of confidence and a deprivation for a drive to do good. This could be brought on by the increasing problems people are facing but how each individual deals with each situation makes all the difference. How can this world progress if there is so much hate, ignorance, and negativity? ...

Always Comparing Yourself - For the Better or for the Worse?

Image
When you meet someone or interact with someone you unconsciously start realizing things about them that are perhaps missing from yourself. It could be something you want, something you are glad you don't have--but in any case your mind starts comparing whether you are aware of it or not. Now you can meet someone that is doing better than you and start thinking what am I doing wrong, why is that not me? Perhaps you automatically start belittling yourself. Now how you move forward with such thoughts is completely up to you but do realize one thing--you can use such thoughts as motivation to become better or you can get sad, feel sorry for yourself and therefore demotivate yourself from doing anything well! How should you look at "better-than-you" people? Well, I suggest you tell yourself to realize what exactly is good about that person's quality and then ask yourself "if I had this quality would it benefit me?" If your answer is yes, then ask yourself ...

Do engineers think differently than marketers?

Image
(http://www.thinkgig.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/think-bigger.jpg ) Does your job or what you studied impact the way you interact with people, the way you see the world, and the way you make your life decisions? Knowing that the brain is a muscle and that it develops and changes according to what we feed it and surround ourselves with, does it make us look at things differently and have us make decisions differently? From one individual to another, our train of thought is perhaps educated more or less in the same way during our school years but the process is different. We have all learned that 2+2=4 but the process we take to get the answer is different--each school, school system, parent, etc. approaches this equation differently. For example, there are schools who teach you to memorize the equation (memorizing the times table), while some schools teach visual methods such as hand counting gestures or moving beads using an abacus. Although we might think we are educated ...

What type of people are humans?

Image
Is it that deep inside all human individuals do is think about themselves or is it possible for an individual to completely remove the sense of oneself and devote oneself's actions to the good of someone else. Now, yes there are different levels at which people care for others but nevertheless everyday one comes across others that react, on that certain day, as they feel they should according to their own individual good and leave no care for the persons around them. It is that selfishness, we as humans all possess, but it does not come alone. Once someone commits a selfish act, there is an after effect... the feeling of guilt. Some ignore this feeling of guilt, others do not feel it at all and some it continues to haunt them, which in some cases leads them to feel guilty that they feel guilty. Guilt is not the only thing happening in the background behind selfishness, but it is also said that selfishness could be a cause of a weakness. Nevertheless I believe humans i...

The Change of Package Designs - A Trigger of Emotions

Image
Is it just me or do you get a bit of an emotional reaction when certain package designs of things change? And no I don't mean any sort of crying....! But I'm the type of person that keeps old things because "you never know when you will need them," although I know deep inside I'm just lying to myself and they'll just sit there unused.  But what about package designs? Do you get that sort of emotional connection because you are used to the design, the material and the manner in which you use the product? You either like the design and don't want it to change or you hate it and keep thinking when will this design be changed (but you learn to live with it in the meantime) but in either one of these feelings you are constantly reminded of the feeling when you pick up the product. But because we humans are created in such a way, we do  eventually reach a comfort zone in the product use, so once it goes away something in our brain grieves slightly. Let...

Boys and Girls and Colors

Image
I've always hated stereotypes or how in this case one color becomes the world to a girl or boy. We smile automatically when a young girl tells you her favorite color is pink or a young boy tells you his favorite color is blue and we react with " aaaw that's so cute, you even have a blue toothpaste habibi. Your favorite color is blue ya? You're so cute" ...and the young boy reacts with a proud smile. Alright that's nice (and cute, I love kids) but why are we pushing a specific color into their thinking, or more over why is society doing this? For marketing reasons? I think nowadays its harder for a kid to discover what his favorite color is, because they probably link it to something they own or to what other kids their age like--they probably don't want to be different unless their parents taught them that its good to be unique and different. Which brings us to early peer pressure, if you think about it, even for children and toddlers. Oh poor kids! ...

Please, you're in my way...

"We will now discuss in a little more detail the Struggle for Existence." - Charles Darwin on the Origins of Species by Means of Natural Selection. While strolling a public place and walking at a regular pace--not too fast and not too slow--and having just enough space for yourself and your friend on your right side, someone walks closer and closer to you and is heading your direction and you're thinking oh no worries, he'll move to the left since he has the space...but ohh so surprisingly that doesn't happen! In the past I used to just move out of the way and simply get pissed off inside my head, but in such a country it kept happening way too often and everywhere and by all sorts of ages and people (exception to the old and the very young of course.) It was time for a change. So I began to continue my straight line walking and at the last minute, before a collision happens, THEY would move. Vio là , so easy and it even felt good! If they didn't move...
