Why do we like listening to music?

Do we listen to music differently in different stages of our lives?  Do we find some songs more gratifying than others in different times in our lives? Why do some songs make us feel good inside and others are just... just alright. Is it the wave frequency or is it that we relate to the lyrics? I, personally, know that I am not drawn to the words, sure it's great when the songs connect to your feelings and thoughts, but that is not my top requirement when choosing which songs I like or I should say which songs pull me in. I don't feel I choose them. They automatically get replayed and eventually given the title (at least in my head if I don't share them with anyone) that this song is goood.  My taste of music is different than what most people around me like. It is a personal thing. Most of the time I listen to music either on my earphones or in my car, sometimes there are others around me where in that case I listen to different genres usually something more upbeat. Most d...

MediaMEForum 2011

Today I'm attending a forum where top CEOs and business individuals are speaking about the digital revolution or at least the slow beginning of one in the middle east.

Content is being placed online and reacted to on a daily basis, and it is creating an impressive impact on our society--anyone who watches the news will know this. The internet has become a movement of its own--its a place where anyone can be the advertiser, the contributor, the reader, the engager...etc. The digital media is very powerful, but currently what is missing in the middle east is not the presence of people to interact on the internet but instead the presence of useful websites for those media craving people in the middle east, moreover what is missing is the presence of middle eastern-created-websites.

The majority of companies currently in the middle east are not utilizing the web strategically and placing useful information on their website...that's if they have a website at all to begin with. Today's first speaker spoke about how most top brands in our countries do not even have a website--he mentioned Habiba for example. Everyone knews the brand--even those abroad--yet there is no website that mentions it. It should be selling its products online--it would be very successful!

The speaker then went on to speak about how the big companies who do have a website, such as Zain jordan and Arab Bank, have such boring websites or websites where one needs to click at least 3 or 4 times before obtaining what they are searching for. For example the Arab Bank online service keeps warning you about online theft (as if it is telling not to use the service) and the whole process is completely dull (with no banner on the website, only a small link that you have to search for) when on the other hand it should be shouting it out--after all it is a bank and this is a great service!

This is only the beginning of the conference yet such critical information has been said. I hope our culture learns and I begin seeing great websites emerging from the middle east. There are a few but they need to be uncountable--we are capable of doing so much!
