Why do we like listening to music?

Do we listen to music differently in different stages of our lives?  Do we find some songs more gratifying than others in different times in our lives? Why do some songs make us feel good inside and others are just... just alright. Is it the wave frequency or is it that we relate to the lyrics? I, personally, know that I am not drawn to the words, sure it's great when the songs connect to your feelings and thoughts, but that is not my top requirement when choosing which songs I like or I should say which songs pull me in. I don't feel I choose them. They automatically get replayed and eventually given the title (at least in my head if I don't share them with anyone) that this song is goood.  My taste of music is different than what most people around me like. It is a personal thing. Most of the time I listen to music either on my earphones or in my car, sometimes there are others around me where in that case I listen to different genres usually something more upbeat. Most d...

"Are you pondering what I'm pondering?"

A lot of time has past and I haven't written any posts...Christmas passed, new year struck, and finally here I am again writing. So I apologize for that and for the fact that I missed the chance to write a 'before the year ends' post and a 'happy new year' post. But aren't those always the same in every blog? "Here's to a new year" "I'll be better than the last year" "this year will be a better year" "jot down your resolutions and you can do it" "what are reasonable resolutions". Everyone started reading this stuff and I personally got sick of it in my email from all the blogs I'm subscribed to. I say whatever! If you wanna do something you would do it, no matter what month it is, what day it, or what time it is. You should really want to do it, and that not just saying it but also believing yourself. But unfortunately we have been brought up into this society as humans that need an excuse, that need that push to go further. And usually this push is a push that people see other people around them being pushed by (in this case the clock striking 1-1-2012).

Now I'm not saying this is a bad thing but sometimes we take it to a bigger level than it should be. Its the trick up the sleeves of marketing, advertising and communication companies. Its the excuse to launch the perfect campaign--from the launch of a new packaging design that makes people want to buy it just because it has fireworks on it to the big event new years party that will pull up the losses of a company and to the launch of a new service that offers hope to people with a new year's resolution list to make their lives a little bit better (but in reality fails to do so and they end up back to where they were the year before).

I'm not sure what my point is. I'm not saying avoid these things, cause that would be impossible. I guess I'm just trying to say don't forget that these things are happening. Everything should not be taken for granted. The thought of realizing what is happening around you, I think alone is worth everything. There is no need to express it and complain about it either but just know it--say in inside your head. This world we live in currently is conditioning us to stop thinking as much about everything and go along with what others are doing. People no longer think why has this been said, why is it this way.  They do only what they are told, they give up easily, and they do no conquer the unknown. The shortest route is not always the best one to take. Challenge other people's actions and thoughts and even challenge your own. There is nothing that feels better than searching your mind and going deep within your thoughts. The best times I have had with the best people in my life is when we sit and talk (or it could just be think) about the way life is. Not about "what" but about "why" and "how".

So if you want to put something extra on that new year's resolution of yours, let it be "to ponder".

I'll leave you with a few quotes:

“We do not think ourselves into a new way of living as much as we live ourselves into new ways of thinking.”

Every moment and every event of every man's life on earth plants something in his soul.
